Daij_Djan I'm assuming since this hasn't been judged, I can still sneak an entry in? (Also, reminder to judge this) Banvar, the Lawmage Legendary Planeswalker - Banvar Players can't cast spells during other player's turns. : Until the start of your next turn, noncreature spells your opponents cast cost more to cast. : Target player can't cast more than one noncreature spell during their next turn.

This contest has been stalled because of me for way too long even before I fell ill, so I'll finally at least announce a winner for today. If you want some feedback, feel free to send me a PM I can easily see we had quite a few pretty cool entries this round (which makes me not giving proper feedback even more sad), but I'll give the win to gamma3!

Thanks for the win! Your next challenge is to design a planeswalker with a static or triggered ability that only functions at/above/below a certain loyalty threshold. Examples would be something like "as long as there are three (or more/less) loyalty counters on ~, foo."

gamma3: Would you accept an activation rider (such as "Activate this ability only if there are N or more loyalty counters on ~")?

Ginoa, Chant of Life Legendary Planeswalker - Ginoa When there are nine or more loyalty counters on Ginoa, exile it and shuffle your hand and graveyard into your library. Draw seven cards. You may put up to three permanent cards from your hand onto the battlefield. : Choose a card type, then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card of the chosen type. Put that card into your hand and shuffle the rest into your library. : Spells you cast this turn cost less to cast. Basically it's an ultimate that auto-activates. I felt like this was more a than a . Also a note on the interaction between the and the triger: When you activate the and she gets has 9 or more counters, the trigger will be put on the stack above the loyalty ability. So you'll first do the Timetwister plus three permanents and then decide what card type you'd like to get.

Sanfonier of the Night shouldn't the first line be part of the first loyalty ability instead of a separate line? And you have (at least) three typos: The middle ability lacks a point (.), creature types are always capitalized (Octopus) and it's "up to one target creature".

So it is! Totally forgot about this, thanks Flo00Let the judging commence! { Flo00 - Ginoa, Chant of Life}The auto-ult concept is an interesting direction to take this challenge. Your theming is on point too. I'm glad you didn't include a minus ability, as the trigger doesn't remove counters, so it would be far too easy to just re-trigger again and again over a couple turns if you had a minus in there. Overall, a pretty cool card. { sdfkjgh - Geordinha, Mistress of the Vast}This is interesting. The first two abilities link up nicely. The 6+ ultimate is a creative reading of the challenge, but it checks out. I was wondering how it fit in with the rest of the abilities, then I realized you could kill a bunch of your own creatures with it to make a ton of mana. The card looks like it wants to be in some kind of flicker deck, which makes me sad that it doesn't have blue somewhere. Still, it's a cool build around. {@ymonrah - Kiora Atua} I like the way you've built this. It's a shame that it doesn't work. You can't have an activated ability that does nothing, so it would probably need to be a with the effect of "Put a number of loyalty counters on Kiora equal to the number of <relevent creature types> you control." This is interesting design space, I think your templating could use some work. I think the win for this challenge goes to Flo00 - I hesitate to deaignate a runner up as there were only 3 entries.

Thanks for the win gamma3! Next challenge: Design a planeswalker where each ability represents a card that already exists.Bonus point for doing permanents. (Except Seal-like things, that's basically delayed spells.) Please also tell me what cards they are in case I can't guess. The abilities do not have to have the exact wording of the originals. Just should be the same general idea/effect.

Flo00 : Would you consider this to be cheating?
Zog, Planeswalker Parasite Legendary Planeswalker--Parasite Zog Zog, Planeswalker Parasite can be your commander. : Choose target loyalty ability of another planeswalker. Zog, Planeswalker Parasite gains that ability. (This lasts indefinitely.) You may activate that ability once this turn as though none of Zog, Planeswalker Parasite’s loyalty abilities have been activated this turn. : Choose target emblem you don’t control. Create a copy of that emblem in your command zone.

Farthen, the Lurker Legendary Planeswalker - Farthen Morbid - At the beginning of each end step, if a creature died this turn, you may draw a card. : Target creature gets +1/-1. When that creature dies this turn, draw a card. : Put any number of target creature cards from your graveyard on top of your library. Deathreap Ritual for the triggered ability. I took a card draw off of Skullclamp and Gravepurge for balancing.

So, does that mean you'll allow it, or do I have to submit another entry?
Also, I was thinking more along the lines of both its abilities being every planeswalkers' abilities. Or, at least every planeswalker with an emblem.

Judging on monday. EDIT: Monday has arrived. {sdfkjgh}I guess this would be a nice superfriends commander. I like that it (he? she?) will most likely play different every time you cast it. I think the would make more sense if it could target any emblem. Else it's super niche. So if I understand the first ability right, you can activate it twice the turn Zog enters but you can't activate it and then activate the new ability. (Because the ability "knows" that Zog's had been activated.) And just because I'm quite the geek when it comes to rules and wording: I think the first ability should start like "Choose a loyalty ability of another target planeswalker." Because as far as I understand targeting abilities allways means abilities on the stack, which wouldn't work because loyalty abilities are sorcery speed. Also I think you don't control an emblem, you own it. Controlling is usually a battlefield-only thing. And to go with already existing emblem (and token copy) wording it would be somehting like "Gain an emblem that's a copy of target emblem (you don't own)." {viriss}I really like the thopter and golem. The disk seems like a color pie violation. There are very few monoblue things that say "destroy" and they seem to fall into three categories: old cards, trigger on creature auras and things the replace a creature with another. And literally none of them destroy artifacts or enchantments. It's also kind of strange that the ultimate destroys the work of the other abilities. {gamma3}That's a nice walker. Feels like it comes right out of War of the Spark. The is an interesting take on a loyaly ability since it's something you actually don#t want to do too often. Unless you do agressive sacing and drawing. Which might be quite possible with Farthen in your deck. gamma3 wins!

Guiz, guiz, guiz! I just realized how WotC could fix not just Standard, but ALL of Competitive Constructed, AND their ancillary deckbuilding problem in one fell swoop!
We all know how crappy, underpowered, and under-supplied Wizards makes their decks; I spent most of yesterday tweaking the Massive Menagerie deck into something just barely unembarrassing (cut the Brushwaggs, Visionaries, Pixies {sorry, Frank Black}, the Whale, the Serpent, the Fully Growns, Witching Wells, Wolfwillow Havens, Thornwood Falls, and a few Basics; add in 2 Llanowar Elves, 3 Growth Spiral, 1 Cultivate, 2 Elder Gargaroth, 2 Sublime Epiphany, 2 Kogla, the Titan Ape, 1 Beanstalk Giant, 3 The Great Henge, 4 Hydroid Krasis, 2 Castle Vantress, 2 Castle Garenbrig, 4 Breeding Pool, 3 Hinterland Harbor, & 2 Temple of Mystery), and I STILL got my ass handed to me >80% of the time!
The solution to both problems is all so simple: ban all cards not in Wizards' precon decks for Competitive Constructed. Take the agency out of the players' hands, those goddamn game-breaking Munchkins, and force them to ONLY play with WotC-built, underpowered, broken-Q-tip-to-a-thermonuclear-war precons! THAT'S the real test of skill: how readily you can turn a joke deck into a lethal joke deck.
Or, they could, y'know, actually hire a bunch of people to test out these borken-ass cards before releasing them to the various formats that they'll inevitably break into thousands of screaming, crying pieces...

Flo00: Alright.
Design a planeswalker with four abilities, none of which are traditional loyalty abilities (ie , , , etc.), but which still operates &/or "feels" like a traditional planeswalker. You have two weeks.

Gideon, Fearless Leader Legendary Planeswalker - Gideon As long as it’s your turn, Gideon, Fearless Leader is a Human Soldier creature with power and toughness each equal to the number of loyalty counters on him that’s still a planeswalker. Prevent all damage that would be dealt to Gideon, Fearless Leader during your turn. Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under your control, put a loyalty counter on Gideon, Fearless Leader. At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may remove X loyalty counters from Gideon, Fearless Leader. If you do, creatures you control get +X/+X until end of turn.
