Disciplined Rhianna Legendary Planeswalker — Rhianna Whenever you scry, create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token. Scry 2. You gain 2 life. Another target permanent gains your choice of vigilance, flying, first strike, hexproof, indestructible, or lifelink until your next turn. Then repeat this process. For each creature and planeswalker you control, create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying and vigilance.
I kept feeling bad about skipping on the previous one, since I'd wanted to make something, but couldn't come up with a way to link to a type in a way I liked.
And then this art just reminded me of guardian angels as a trope and I felt really dumb.

This was one half of my sparker in my project, so probably isn't balanced as well. Did change the CMC though. Attachment Deleted

I've actually begun my judging, I should have it posted tomorrow if not later today.
Sorry for the delay, I was much busier over the weekend than I had anticipated.
viriss: This reminds me a lot of Dovin, Grand Arbiter but more efficient. I like how it can both create tokens and build loyalty in the same turn. The problem I have is that the payoff isn't as impactful. Dovin encourages playing evasive creatures and rewards you with card advantage, this planeswalker encourages playing evasive creatures and rewards you with more evasion. Instead of redundancy the ultimate could be a buff for your creatures or debuff to opponents creatures to at least close the game faster. gluestick248: I do understand what you're going for and I like it. I especially like how the lifelink works with the plus ability even when Gideon isn't a creature, but this should be "up to one target" otherwise I don't believe you can use the ability if your opponents don't have any tapped creatures. I am concerned with how wordy the ultimate is, card text would start getting cramped. I think you can save word count by cutting "At the beginning of each combat" and "until end of turn" and would still be a fair ultimate. Xenozfan2: At first I was underwhelmed by this ultimate, but then I was overwhelmed by how much value there is for a token deck because it doesn't just care about just zombie tokens. It's a bit more of build around requiring more tokens than just the ones it makes, but overall I like how all the abilities synergize with one another. gateways7: This planeswalker is too unwieldy for me because every ability deals with stealing spells or creatures. I'm a little bothered that the first ability doesn't allow to spend mana as though it were of any type, because then the ability to play an opponents spell becomes much less relevant. And the ultimate is just untenable, allowing everyone to play anyone else's spells and requiring players to continuously reveal cards and keep them in order is just too much of a challenge for me. fabuloussunbro: A very flavorful Vraska planeswalker, every ability is perfectly within her character. I do believe it's too efficient though in that she builds loyalty way too quickly for such a low cmc and the deathtouch tokens on a plus ability will take over the game too quickly. If I would change anything I would add to the plus ability "if a creature card is exiled this way" then make a token. Tesagk: Certainly getting the garruk vibes from this. I like the change of pace giving it an activated ability as opposed to a passive or triggered ability, as well as the fact that the tokens it makes fuels all its other abilities. 2wb: I'm not entirely sure why scry is so central to this white planeswalker, I supposed white is one of the colors most concerned with 'order' but I feel like it would have made more sense making tokens off of gaining life. The zero ability feels like needlessly overcomplicated, I get the feeling this a tokens matter planeswalker and a small buff to all your creatures would suffice. My favorite thing is the ultimate, calling an angel to aid each of your creatures feels very flavorful and because it's so dependent on have many creatures to start it doesn't feel too overpowered. Flo00: Like creatures with defender do I feel like this is going to sit on the board doing a whole lot of nothing. The passive allows creatures with defender to attack but not with their toughness, and we've seen cards that do both for less mana. It's not until you reach the ultimate does it allow creatures to attack with toughness but that takes 4 turns of just using the plus and I think it would be too late at that point. Gear NO.7: This is just so incredibly narrow. The passive requires tapping more creatures after already crewing a vehicle. The plus power ups vehicles but does nothing to crew them. The minus is useless if your opponents aren't also playing vehicles, unless you're using it on your vehicles? And I don't feel like I'm ever going to reach that ultimate nor will it matter anyway if I do.
Winners: 1st fabuloussunbro Runners up: gluestick248 & 2wb

We did it! I think the criticism is pretty fair. I may have made a small concession for a character I like in trying to balance the card. Either making the tokens conditional or maybe making deathtouch conditional ("...If you exiled a creature card this way, that creatures gains deathtouch until the start of your next turn.") would probably be a good idea. Our next challenge is: Create a planeswalker version of a legendary creature that synergizes with that creature (and/or other cards of the same character). For example, Rakdos, Lord of Riots likes creatures with big generic mana costs and making opponents lose life, while Rakdos, the Defiler and Rakdos, the Showstopper like all your permanents to be demons and dislike your opponents' permanents being demons. You could create a Rakdos planeswalker that pings opponents, gives you large creatures to cast, makes opponents sacrifice non-Demons, and so on. Edit: A similar challenge was posted by viriss last year, and while I think it's got a pretty wide conceptual space, I'd rather do something new. So: Design a planeswalker somehow mechanically related to a non-planeswalker card you identify with or a non-planeswalker card you're proud of opening from a booster. For example, the first rare I played tabletop Magic with is Nessian Wilds Ravager, so I might make a Hydra tribal planeswalker, a planeswalker that interacts with the tribute or fight mechanics, or even a planeswalker with its own version of tribute that perhaps increases its starting loyalty.

I would've liked to keep this open for another day or two, but there probably isn't much point to it. I hoped for more than one entry, but what can you do? If anyone wants to speak up as to why they didn't enter, I'd be interested to hear for the sake of writing better prompts on the remote chance that I win another contest. Anyway! Flo00 wins by default. Deon is really neat, in the least patronizing way you can call something neat. Stays true to the source material, supports the Fungus tribal payoffs (ain't that a phrase) while providing utility that plays into the variety of spore counter-based effects, and the emblem is about the right amount of game-winning.

Thanks for the feedback fabuloussunbro! I'm glad you like my card.
Next challenge: Let's try something different: A challenge that's more around your card than the card itself. Make a planeswalker with a backstory and tell me that story! It can be as long or as short as you wish. Part of the judging will be how much the card's abilities match their backstory.

I'm pretty excited for this one. Ydbhith is the result of an entire plane gone to war, a war that concluded with all living matter on the plane being transmuted into a necromantic fungus. This single planewide entity was at first uproarious and indignant at its fate, but gradually discovered that the unity forced upon its previous inhabitants was the only possible solution to facilitating peace. With the goal of assimilation, the worldsoul of the plane of Ydbhith manifested a material avatar as a vessel for its planeswalking ability and set out in pursuit of that goal. It employs both traditional methods of conquest -- raising armies of saprolings, laying siege to settlements by spreading disease and rot through food supplies -- but also assimilates directly through the application of its entheogenic fungus.

might toss one of my preexisting duders here or make another one up at some point

Rin, Protector of the Elements Legendary Planeswalker - Rin <+1> The first time you cast a spell this turn, scry 1. The second time, draw a card. <-3> Target creature gets +0/+4, if it’s an elemental it gets +4/+4 instead, and fights target creature you don’t control. <-10> Tap all your opponent’s creatures, they do not untap during their controller’s next untap step. Then deal 10 damage to each tapped creature. <4> Alright, story:"Damn it, Rin. Where are you?" Krag stood on a cliff that edged around one of the tallest mountains in the Yutowa range. He was supposed to meeting Rin, a powerful Shugenja who had information on the Wotoku court. Things were tense in the kingdom, and this retreat was a place full of memories for Krag, and his clandestine meetings with Rin. She was one of the most beautiful women he knew, and even though she had powers to take on entire armies, she never wore armor. Then again, Krag had never seen a warrior make it to within five feet of her. He himself was an accomplished veteran of three wars, but he wasn't sure how he would match up against her. But beauty and magic were far from her only traits. She was brilliant, with keen insights, a deep and wise understanding of the world, and the ability to get anyone to talk about anything. Krag hoped she'd got more than a few people speaking. After a moment, Krag turned and looked up at the mountain. Its summit was hidden by clouds, as it generally was. He'd attempt that summit one day, it seemed he'd been telling himself that for years, and with each year it seemed a less and less likely possibility. But if the view from the top was anything like he dreamed... it would be worth it. The wind picked up, reminding him of why he hated the mountain as much as he admired and respected it. As stunning as the view was, as daunting as the summit could be in his mind's eye, the mountain was an ever present reminder of his exile. Krag was fortunate enough to have two homes, though he was certain most would find them unfortunate homes: the first was a cave just meters in front of him, facing the edge of the cliff. The second was a tree home he'd built at the base of the mountain. Getting into that one was a painful reminder of how old he was getting. It felt like half his life had been spent waiting for things in Wotoku to change. A sudden gust of wind caused Krag to stagger forward. He never ceased to be surprised by the sheer brutality of the weather up the mountain. However, when he turned around it became immediately clear that the mountain wasn't responsible at all... (This is taking longer than I anticipated...)

Anron is a biologically engineered human created by an oldwalker in a plane that she isolated from the rest of the Multiverse. Anron was the greatest tactician of the Multiverse and an excellent warrior. She used him to conquer the plane. After he was done with it, she cryogenized him with no intention of waking him up ever again. When the Mending came and she lost her goldike powers, a powerful demon she had enslaved awakened Anron. He, realizing she was going mad united the denizes of the plane and atempted to take down her regime. And stuff happened (which I don't want to spoil because the story has potential and I may make a set about it in the future). Depending on the timeline, Anron may die in that plane, when the demon's machinations come to fruition or his planeswalker's spark may ignite, leading him to become a conqueror of planes with the sole intention of stopping war once and for all. He has no interest in ruling, he just want people to stop fighting. The Last Warlord is a title he earned after ending a millenia long war. [Think of it like Captain Marvel's phrase "I'm not going to fight you war, I'm going to end it" but from a not boring character. Well, he may be boring but that only time "and my poor writing skills) will tell.]

Attachment Deleted(thought I'd put my entry in again in a different attempt, if this isn't allowed then I'll try for a new one.) This guy right here is Jean-Eric Vergne, real life DS Techeetah Formula E driver, former Toro Rosso F1 driver. I make a custom set of Formula E cards and this was his sparker half of the Champion card (which, for the submission, was modified) - a card for the season's champion where they all start off as 3/3s and have a flip side that turns into planeswalkers. This is his second champion card already due to his second title, and this card is based around the new addition in season 5 of Formula E - attack mode, where a driver takes a slower route during the race to gain more power for a while. This card as well as most cards in the set is vehicle-based and team color usually prioritizes over driver "color", though balances usually exists. Probably not the best card out there, but definitely something I won't hate. Also if the story is still complicated for any of you Wikipedia probably has everything you need.

Alea, Watcher of Worlds Legendary Planeswalker - Alea Hexproof : Each player reveals the top card of their library. "I was a watchman for my tribe, though it was a time of peace. Wandering bandits, wild animals, and such were still very much a threat. I was on watch one night when my lover came for me. He was most persuasive, and I so in love. It was near the end of my watch and all was calm, so what was the harm? I left my post. "Not five minutes later, they attacked. "They came through the gap I had left in the defenses, and by the time the rest of the watch knew what was happening half of their forces were through. The streets ran red that night, and the screams mixed as one. I left my lover and tore through the village, looking for my sister. The last thing I remember was seeing her...she...she... "I awoke the next morning lying in a pile of bodies I unfortunately recognized. Smoke hung heavy in the air, mixing with the river mist and thankfully blurring the remains of the carnage I was responsible for. I wandered the streets, calling the names of people I knew wouldn't be there to answer. A weak voice finally reached me, calling for help. I quickly rushed to find the shaman, bloodied, broken, and trapped beneath rubble I couldn't possibly move, as hard as I tried. Through uncontrollable sobs I explained it was all my fault, the death and destruction, and my sister...oh, my sweet sister. "The shaman was a kind man but had a strong wicked streak to those who crossed him. 'Alea,' the shaman said. 'Alea, you have brought this upon us. You must bear this burden. You failed to watch, and so watch you will. You acted irrationally, so act you will not. You will walk the world, unable to move it from its course. You will remember this for all time.' And he died. "Death curses are strong, and as he passed I felt it take hold. I felt...lighter, somehow. Disembodied. Physically, at least. The weight of what he did crashed down upon me like a flood. I felt myself lose hold of reality and hurtle through the void. My first planeswalk, yes, now hush. The people I met on the other side were kind and gave me shelter and food, though I knew I had no need of either now. I left after some time as the curse drew me on. "It was a long while before I realized the full extent of the shaman's curse. I was immortal, yes, and ageless, yes. I needed neither food nor sleep nor new clothes. I never tired. The worst part, though, was realizing I could see where the actions of others would lead and never be able to change it. I knew who would become a tyrant, who would build a shoddy dam, who would sabotage a food supply, and try as I might, not a single soul would believe me. 'Oh, you and your theories' they would laugh. When my predictions came true they would declare me evil, having brought this misfortune upon them, and run me out. So I would drift. "Mine is not a happy story, so I pass it on as a warning. Heed it or not (you won't, I already see), I must tell it regardless. Why? I hope one day to find a way to be rid of the curse, of course. Would you like to be in my place? "How old am I? How rude of you to ask a woman's age." *laughs* "Let's see...I remember the beginnings of a world where dragons fell from the sky. I remember a strange...egg, I suppose, with strong destinies entwined within. I followed those destinies for lifetimes; very, very interesting destinies, those. That world should be ancient now. Find its age, and you find most of mine."

Wrote up an entry, got some feedback on problems with it, wrote up a wall defending my decisions on Rhianna, computer crashed while I was doing some things; then forgot to return to posting entry. As far as the challenge itself the prompt was fine and fun! It was difficult for me because I don't have single cards that I am so attached to, but beyond that it wasn't awful -- I fulfilled the spirit by going with something that played with a card that I'm fond of and recently got plenty of abuse out of (Dovin's Acuity), and had the ult be an emblem for it each turn to make the reference explicit.

Thx for the win! Looking in Scryfall at walkers I've realised that most of them don't use non evergreen keywords and mechanics (in fact only Angrath, Domri, Wrenn and Oko do). So, your next challenge is to design a planeswalker that uses a non-evergreen mechanic! It can be an action keyword, a pseudo or a normal set mechanic. I don't know if a similar contest has been issued in the past, but please, don't reuse old entries. I mean, I'm not forbidding it, but the point is to desing new things. Best of luck!

I don't have the energy nor the time to write a proper judging right now, so augur wins. If someone wants proper feedback feel free to PM me. I may update this post in two or three days, though. EDIT: Found some free time, so let's judge! @fabuloussunbro: I'm not a fan of the campion mechanic, but for a planeswalker that cares about ETBs it's a great choice. The -2 is ok (maybe on the strong side?). My main porblem is the -8, as permanent exile is a break in blue. Sure, it's Release to the Wind, but only you get your greatures back. Adding white would make it not break the color pie and would be a good color pair for ETB matters. augur: I like this a lot. The static synergyzing with undiying is great. Also, the ultimate's keyword soup appeals to both my Vorthos side and my Mel side. Very very good. Tesagk: Alright, the +1 is busted. If you have a decent board state this gets out of hand very quickly. Absorb 4 is incredibly strong. Adding lifelink just is the icing on the cake. The whole lifelink package is good, but absorb feels out of place in the design. Xenozfan2: Adamat is a very odd choice for a multicolor card, when the whole focus of the mechanic is to reward playing monocolor. I mean, this punishes you for playing three colors? And even then, not really, you just need one extra mana to trigger the adamant. The emblem is also very very strong, IMO. The abilities are flavorful for Will and Rowan, I suppose, but I really dislike the use of Adamant her.
