Hey, Daij_Djan, I know this is a big ask, and you can accept or reject as much of it as you like, but I was wondering if you could do for these Deckbuilders’ Challenges what you do for the Card of the Week challenges: public voting polls, frontpage status, the whole 8.2296 meters. Could/would you &/or the other Mods be willing to do this? I’d like to hope that we can build this little site into a rival of the bigger sites like channelfireball.com or mtggoldfish.com, and the way I see that happening is by expanding our content creation into a few slightly more mainstream areas, so we’re not just known as one of the custom Magic card backwater sites. Anyway, congrats to last Challenge’s winner, ZephyrPhantom, and now for something completely different: Pick a commander from here designed by someone other than you, and build a Commander deck around maximizing that card’s effectiveness. You have one week, and the winner (hopefully as voted on by the MSE community at large) gets to choose the next challenge. Now get building, and good luck.

Hi sdfkjgh, I don't mind setting up a poll for this challenge at all (that's really not that much work considering I've got plenty of experience doing these ), but we'll refrain from giving it frontpage status for now. My proposal would be watching the poll numbers for a few weeks, looking at how many users are interested in these challenges for real – and if interest does show, the team will discuss further measures Also while I really wasn't able to participate last time – I'll definitely participate in this challenge

For the record, currently working on a Erroy, Hand of Innovation (designed by Lady Mapi ) deck right now. As it was mentioned in the thread, it really is a commander begging to get broken - which is why I'm actually not doing this EDIT: As mentioned below, I decided to drop this approach. I wanted to not use the energy to create broken amounts of ramp but rather use a GU shell and the profic of pseudo five-colored spells. Problem was, those payoff spells weren't really worth the effort Still, if you're interested, this is how far I came before moving away from the deck.

ZephyrPhantom, Lady Mapi, Daij_Djan: I'm thinking of expanding this Challenge by at least another week or two, and to include the Commander Game, as suggested by Lady Mapi.
From here on out, the Deckbuilders' Challenge will be run like any of the other Challenges, with the winner picking the next Challenge. Sound good?

Sounds good to me as well
Having a week extra will be very usefull seeing as so far I only had one evening to work on the deck for real - and now that we have access to a much wider array of possible commanders, I also might change mine as well because the deck doesn't really come together as nicely as I'd had hoped. Still will post the unfinished decklist if I do, though

Built a messy deck idea here around Zhestra, Architect of Decay - it could definitely be improved a lot. Makes use of some cards that are difficult or straight-up impossible to use in a lot of decks. If this isn't a good format let me know - I didn't want to type out all the cards in a post.

I'm using deckststs myself to build the deck - so personally I think it's fine Btw yes, I've changed my commander. Should get my deck finished by either tomorrow or the day after.

thaneofglamis: Format is highly agreeable. If this is what you call messy, just how tuned do you think you can get it? Because that thought is terrifying.

I haven't even really thought about it - I just went to the EDHREC page for Atraxa with a -1/-1 counters theme, dumped all the blue cards and Infect, and added in a few +1/+1 counter effects and staples. That might be the best you can get, though! Thanks for the compliment!
EDIT: Just realized that I cannot, in fact, infinitely recur creatures with Undying. Unless they have more than 1 toughness. Sorry, Strangleroot Geist.
EDIT again: Wait... if Strangleroot Geist dies, returning with a +1/+1 counter, and I used Zhestra to turn that into a -1/-1 counter, killing the Geist, would it come back again? If so, that's infinite ETBs.

Just realized that I cannot, in fact, infinitely recur creatures with Undying. Unless they have more than 1 toughness. Sorry, Strangleroot Geist. Eh, I realized that just by looking at the decklist, but figured Geist is good enough on its own to still include. Plus, you have so many effects that add +1/+1\-1/-1 counters, you could still make it work.
However, if you still feel the need to cut it, might I suggest Sheltering Ancient? Gets around shroud and hexproof. Grants style points for using bad cards to utterly humiliate your opponents. Would be the ultimate Johnny/Jenny choice.

This is a Commander deck build around Witte Wieven (by melono). One could probably best describe it as Wraith, Shade, Spirit & Swamp tribal buildaround.
As I actually haven't built and/or played a single game of Commander in the last ten years or so, I don't really know the format well (a few staples aside – which for the most part weren't even included – like Sol Ring f.e.) which is why I really wanted to go with a monocolored commander with a clear gameplan. This is clearly not the most powerful deck, but I really enjoyed putting everything together nethertheless. Also you don't get to put cards like Lost Soul into a deck often

Ok, I'm calling it. This Challenge is now closed. Polling to go up later. Daij_Djan, you can handle that, right?
