Edit: I'm not usually one to toot my own horn, quite the opposite actually, but I came up with this design fairly quickly. So quickly that I'm still seeing nuances in the design. I'm actually really proud of this one. It may need adjusted in the CMC or P/T area, but I think it's a damn fine concept, personally. Edit 2: Tribalized it more explicitly

gluestick248 : Because there's only 14 creatures with shadow, and only two ways to grant it. Also, politics. Don't want that creature to be blocked? Shadow. Don't want that creature to block? Shadow. Want that creature dead? Oops, now it's the only creature that can block. Jartis : Wrong kind of entry. You need a tribal commander. Myr Prime Legendary Creature - Myr Myr creature spells you cast cost less to cast. Untap each Myr creature you control during each other player's untap step. : Create three Myr creature tokens 3/3 Yes, I know it's broken with a token doubler and Phyrexian Altar. Then again, what isn't? A lot of the myr have abilities, so I figured that would be their thing. They also get a BUNCH of random abilities, so they're good at adaptation. It needed to be , so it was either that ability or adding mana. They swarm, hence the tokens. There's a bunch more that went into this, but I'm tired and not going to explain myslef cause tried. blghes P.S.: Optimyr Prime. Hehehehe.

Hmm, any underserved tribes I could go for? Badgers! --- I'm debating changing my entry - how broad can we go with "tribal" here? Would, say, a Merfolk commander that cares about Fish/Kraken/Octopus/Serpent creatures count?

mrlozano: Just because you asked so nicely:
Swaggbrush the Maggnificent Legendary Creature--Brushwagg Vigilance, haste All creatures on the battlefield are Brushwaggs instead of their other types. Brushwagg creatures you and your team mates control have trample, hexproof, and “Whenever this creature blocks a creature or becomes blocked by a creature, it gets +5/+5 until end of turn.” Whenever an opponent casts a non-Brushwagg spell, you may have target player create a 3/2 green Brushwagg creature token with “Whenever this creature blocks or becomes blocked, it gets -2/+2 until end of turn.” 4/5

{OLD} I just realized that the first ability doesnt say where to put the Artificer: it should say put it onto the battlefield. Phoneposting so I'll make a render tonight. Also, this card is mostly meant to go with the Splicer series, but other artificers and golems work as well.

Man, I've seen so much of early internet culture (I'm 31, I've been doing stuff on the internet since I was like... 10) but this never crossed my path.

Last-minute entry! I love commanders, so I'm surprised I haven't entered this contest yet. I considered making Daximas' ETB effect "then double the number of +1/+1 counters on each other Hydra creature you control," but quickly realized that was asking for trouble.

Well, judging time! Plenty of good entries this time around, so, without further ado, let's get to it. (Also, I closed the window where I had the judging when I had almost finished, so if you see that your card is poorly rated or you disagree with my jugding, don't hesitate to bring it up in the thread or PM me for a more detailed explantion. Sorry for any inconvenience.) viriss : Merrix d'Cannith {Spoiler}I like the sinergy with the Splicers and the ability to get a Golem with each artificer. The second ability seems a little bit tackled onto it but works. My main issue with it is the twobrid mana cost, I really don't get why you are using it instead of normal GWU. You want to pay the extra 2 most of the time and paying 7 or 8 seems like too expensive. Anyways, pretty solid, seems worth brewing. Daij_Djan : Alreth, Master of Bones {Spoiler}This is pretty similar to a card I designed some time ago. I like the fact that it turns regeneration into almsot-indestructible. The +1/+1 counter part is a nice bonus, but I feel that it can be easily exploited. Also 2/3 for two seems like a pretty good ratio. Probably safer at 3 CMC or even 4? Overall, I like it, seems fun for a janky deck. gateways7 : Velsa Ra, Dusk's Attendant {Spoiler}I really like the idea of making an opponent the monarch and getting benefit of it. I like the flavor of the church that can't be damaged by the royalty. Sweet political tool. Lady Mapi : High Speaker Fryst {Spoiler}I really like this card, but if I had to complain about something it would be that it's not five colored. Anyways, the vigilance clause is nice and the fact that it can also helm a discard deck is a bonus point in its favor. Really nice card. burntsquirrelman : Darksteel Engine {Spoiler}The name isn't really legendary-y, but I'll ignore that. The last ability should only trigger during your opponents' upkeeps, I think, otherwise it's just more free counters, but that's also personal taste. Jartis : Wayke, Eternal Soul {Spoiler}I agree with you, this is a great design. My only complaint is that it hitting Monks *and* Spirits seems like a lot of value (I would like it even more if it was only monks). Anyways, the fact that it's non-black and there is only one black monk makes it even better. kebelqwa : Anya Falkenrath {Spoiler}If I were going to make a Rakos Vampire deck, I will chose this over nay of the Olivias without hesitation. The card is pretty sweet. If I had to get touchy, I can say that you could have named her Anje Falkenrath, who is a character that appears in three flavor texts of innistrady vampires. Xenozfan2 : Myr Prime {Spoiler}I'm not at all against infinite combos, so don't worry on that aspect. My main concern with it is the two-mana reduction, that allows you to cast most Myrs for free, but those are not broken or anything so, it's not a big issue. I like how you can activate the ability during each player's turn if you have the five mana generating Myrs. Pretty sweet card. sdfkjgh : Swaggbrush the Maggnificent {Spoiler}You've got your bonus brushwagg points, don't worry (also, for some context, the brushwagg joke comes for blogatog, where people sometimes ask for a brushwagg commander when other people request commanders for other tribes). The card is pretty fun and I could really see it in a silver-border set. If I have to get serious, I don't like the CWUBRG cost (mostly the C part). Also the +5/+5 ability is pretty broken. Anyways, fun entry. Flo00 : Sdroni, the Swarmlord {Spoiler}I like the sinergy with the self-sacrifice insects. It worries me a bit that it can cast Ulamogs and Kozileks for free, but that's also part of the fun. The activated ability is also very nice. Idea : Necromorph Lich {Spoiler}I like the concept, but the card itself is probably broken. It can get very big very quickly in a changeling self-mill deck. Also the twiobrid cost is not necesary here. The card is strong enough without that making it easier to cast. The second ability is really really sweet, maiking you shapeshifters actually shapeshift is great, but in my opinion it gets overshadowed by the raw power of the first ability. melono : Othreebee, Delegator of Repairs. {Spoiler}While this is similar to viriss' card I like that you took a different direction, with your card wanting a deck full of golems with some artificer support and theirs wanting an artificer deck with maybe some golems. Anyways, to your card. It's simple and straightforward. I think it can afford to cost 3, but I have no more complaints. Tesagk : Badger of Ruskoni {Spoiler}I like a lot the fact that you gave a mechanical identity (making more badgers) to a tribe without one. I think the tokens can be 1/1s, because at 0/1 they are pretty useless without the commander or other lord in the field. FLAREdirector : Daximas, the Legion {Spoiler}I agree with you that the doubling counters was asking for trouble, but sometimes you have to take risks. The card, as is, works fine, with a relevant keyword for green and a nice ETB, but I feel like it lacks of something that makes it relevant once it's on the battlefield. Sanfonier of the Night : Oroz, Master of Legions {Spoiler}This card is sweet, but sadly, the challenge was to make a tribal commander and it doesn't enhance any tribe, sorry. The card is very nice and I really like that mechanic tho. Alright, this was tough, but we finally made it to the end! There were lots of sweet entries, but, as a certain group of Commander players say... Only one may stand! {AND THE WINNER IS...} gateways7 , with Velsa Ra, Dusk's Attendant! The runner-ups are Xenozfan2, Jartis and Lady Mapi, in no particular order. This one was really tough. Anyways, good luck, and see you next time!

Hey, question for gateways7 about Velsa Ra: Which player chooses if an opponent becomes the monarch, Velsa's controller or their opponent? Thanks for the feedback. My big thing with this one was that I wanted a hydra that gave hydras reach. It's very strange to me how, as long-necked and ferocious as they are, a bird can still fly over them.

FLAREdirector: The opponent would get to choose whether they become the monarch or not. Alright, thank you so much for the win! For your next challenge, make a commander that has a keyword mechanics and with only colors we haven't seen that keyword in. For instance, you can use the mechanic Fabricate in red and/or blue because it's been in Abzan colors in the past, or you could use the Embalm mechanic in only black, as that's the only color it hasn't been in already. Good luck!

Tesagk: Correct, fabricate was a Kaladesh mechanic. gateways is just saying that the only cards with fabricate in Kaladesh block were white, green, or black-- Abzan's colors, even if it wasn't on Abzan's plane. I have to admit, this was actually really hard! I think WOTC has done a good job of tying a lot of mechanics to the guilds and clans/tribes. But then I found this excerpt from the MTG Gamepedia (emphasis mine): "The Jeskai believe that they alone understand the true nature of reality. As taught by Ugin, they speak of six fires that light the way to Enlightenment. These are the white soulfire, the red bloodfire, the blue mistfire, the black deathfire and the green vitalfire. While vitalfire and deathfire are taboo for the Jeskai Way, mastering the other three opens the way to the sixth fire: the colorless ghostfire." It occurs to me writing this now that this challenge is really "design a commander that spits on the color pie," but whatever. I enjoyed it. To clarify, vitalfire is used here for the mentor mechanic, the idea that those who stand with Yavasi and follow their teachings can be rewarded with ever-greater strength, to an extent that even the other Jeskai monks can't achieve. After all, prowess only lasts until end-of-turn, but counters persist through turns. Deathfire is represented by the wither mechanic. I also recognize that wither was on more than a few black and green cards way back in Shadowmoor, but I figure two out of three ain't half bad. (It's one-third bad, heyooooooo.)

FLAREdirector: You had the perfect reference just sitting there, and you ignored it. What are you doing, man?!
Oddball, Quicksilver Deity Legendary Creature--Shapeshifter God Oddball, Quicksilver Deity can’t be blocked. Oddball, Quicksilver Deity gets +1/+1 for each other creature on the battlefield. Oddball, Quicksilver Deity gets +1/+1 for each card in each player’s hand. Bloodrush—, Discard Oddball, Quicksilver Deity: Target attacking creature gets -4/-4 and gains “This creature can’t be blocked” until end of turn. : If Oddball, Quicksilver Deity is in your command zone, you may put it into your hand at the beginning of the next end step. -4/-4
You may not know it, but because of how it's worded, bloodrush could be used as a defensive ability, a la Gideon's Reproach.

Couldn't decide between Melee and Renown. They were in the same colors, so I decided to do both. To save card space I left out Renown's reminder text, but I figured Melee probably needed it, since it is likely to happen more than once and this card also grants it to other creatures.
