Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and ninety-third challenge! The winner of the "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" poll was Boogymanjunior with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Please design a black-bordered card representing a real life job! Whether it's an Ogre Nurse, caretaking houses with Adarkar Sentinels or taking play-act to a whole new level. Note: Feel free to note the job you're referring too in case your card is a bit more abstract. Your note will be included in the poll. ~Daij_Djan To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

I figure this should work. It's Graf Mole in reverse, with an extra ability tacked on to make up for the lack of butt

A card obviously at its best in multiplayer, in particular in team-based formats

If Jewish or Italian mother isn't considered a job, then I can always go with chef.

This one goes out to trade instructors. When I was in trade school, I got to see how the different instructors each had their own way of teaching, but they all found a way to help their students get better in their own way. I have a lot of respect for that, so I decided to represent the way that an instructor passes their craft to a new generation with a card paying tribute to one of my favourite MTG stories. (Technically, you could equip this to a Diviner's Wand, but that's the only non-creature Wizard permanent I could find, and it's a pretty old card. Also, it wouldn't benefit from being enchanted. So, I decided not to convolute the wording by covering the fringe case with "Enchant Wizard creature".)

sdfkjgh : You already made this joke just a month ago i think. Aarhg : That's lovely. kefke : You have to choose black borders for this challenge. WotC primarily* uses two border colours. Black for main line tournament-legal cards, and silver for promotional cards and Un-sets. The challenge saying to make a "back border" card simply means to make a card that could be printed outside of joke and promotional material, not the actual colour of the card border. On my cards, I use a purple border as a immediately recognizable visual indicator that the card is a homebrew. Real Magic™ cards don't have purple borders, so putting one on my cards serves as a "mark of inauthenticity" that can be spotted much more quickly than the "not an official product" text where the copyright information should be. *Edit: There's also white border, which was used for the core, non-expansion set prior to tenth edition, and gold border, which is used exclusively for commemorative sets. There's also cards with non-standard borders, like the Amonkhet hieroglyphic cards, and cards that have no card border at all. However, people still generally just say "black border" as a catchall term for non-silver-bordered cards.

Whoops, missed out on the last one! Ah well, here's my card for this competition: It goes without saying, but my card's based on Private Investigators. I liked the idea of a mechanic that meshes multiple types of the newer artifact tokens, so I thought a flavor of being paid to find clues would be a good flavor (hence why you create a Treasure).

Everybody's making bakers, but who tastes the food after it's made? Hopefully the reviews are good... Not to be mean, but you might want to put that one back in the oven. It looks like it's not done. (Creatures usually have Power and Toughness, for a start.)

First time entering a contest, and in fact first time posting on this board in general, so let's see how it goes... Janitors always get the short end of the stick in media - usually they're the butt of the joke despite what an essential role they play in business. Imagine how miserable most public businesses would be without paying someone to clean! With that in mind, here's a card that tries to give a tip of the hat to janitors: maybe not the flashiest or most beefy, but it can certainly save you in a pinch just by cleaning up the board state a little. Changed the card to Uncommon after figuring out the point of card rarity, changed flavor text to not be goofy. Grim Sweeper Creature — Human : Remove up to X counters of any kind, except loyalty counters, from target permanent. Sweep away obstacles, and return to your true self.0/3

Grim Sweeper Creature — Human : Remove up to X counters of any kind, except loyalty counters, from target permanent. People never think about who has to clean up all these scattered +1/+1s.0/3 Just to point out, the contest specifies black-border, and your flavour text referencing game mechanics falls solidly into silver-border territory. (Black border refers to design sensibilities, not card aesthetics.)

I see, I hadn't really considered flavor text as "part of the card" functionally but that does make sense. Fixed, thank you for pointing that out.

A PI for a world of misteries. You should prolly specifies who fateseals. My guess is that PI's controller fateseals, but the Ambiguity exists such that someone could argue that the player revealing their hand does it instead, and while that does still match the flavor of a detective story (as soon as the detective finds out some damning evidence, the guilty party covers up twice as much evidence as was discovered), it's more fitting for the more depressing, closer to real life examples of the genre, where nothing of importance gets uncovered, and the guilty always get away with it (gee, that got dark). It also makes things rather confusing, gameplay-wise.
