Rel has nothing more interesting than the turret outside and so is hiding nothing right now. When the creature warns him, he can only chuckle. "My dude, I got better things t' do than evacuate. It looks really weak at first glance but actually I'm more concerned now that it's probably too powerful of a removal spell for a card blue and green can cast. 6/10

Aelewin returns to the complex, this time with a faux leather case in tow instead of their blade. Their cloak, immaterial as it is, is distinctly torn in some places, and they look somewhat worse for wear. Their face is a mask of indifference barely concealing visible frustration. As they approach the fence, they call out: "Hello?" From the tone of their voice, they are quite obviously in a sour mood.Interplanar Postal Courier Creature - Human When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search your library for an artifact card, reveal it and put it into your hand. When Rel hears this whisper, he's trying to produce a functional turret out of his current nonfunctional one. Which, at the moment, is now a mess of conduits at the base of the tower. He turns around to find this whatever, a remnant of something Rel had seen in paintings but never interacted with himself. But seeing one in person was much worse than seeing one in a painting. Worse enough that being within his was demanded a swift response. "Intriguing. The horrors respond poorly to certain metals. I'll need to investigate this further." Rating: I thought this was on the situational side until realizing that lands are hit by this. Incidentally, that's also when I realized this card was red for a reason. 8/10.

When Haia next stepped out of the tunnel, Rel was ready for her. While the snow wasn't any less present -- and, in fact, it had probably been added to overnight -- there was a lightly traced path through the layer of white. It lead to the closest entrance of the outpost, a distance that didn't even need to be traced in the night, but it was intended to be symbolic rather than actually helpful. Haia was still wearing a dress as if she didn't know what cold felt like, though this time it had multiple layers to it. It had also retained its blue and white color palette, something that Rel had now noticed was a theme of the outfits she chose.
"Yo, so, before you berate me about my architecture again," Rel started. He didn't finish that though, leaving Haia with the most puzzled expression Rel had ever seen. She seemed to start to say something, but stopped before she got anywhere. "Some dude came by a couple days back askin' about a 'Prototype'. Thought I was hiding it." Haia's eyes were already widening. "You guys meet someone like that?""That-- that, that's the thing!"No further context. Rel chuckled. "I'm, uh, gonna need ya to be a bit more specific.""I, uh, it-- mm..." Haia frantically tapped on her transceiver, typing something into the display. She then slid her finger up across her screen and projecting it into the space in front of her. This was a document Rel could read. "Oh, ya got a thing for it. ... damn, an entire incident report too." He read the details that Haia was already familiar with. The attempted repair by Saint Hannah, her evacuation by Saint Karina, the attack that hit Seiva, the shot by someone named Kaira -- and the largest tenebrite explosion at the time. "Know what, that explains the explosion. Gotchya. And I guess ya've got no idea where she is now?" Haia rapidly shook her head.
"So anyways, about these walls," Rel started to walk off to one of his walls. In place of whatever nonsense he had before, his walls now had a firm structure. They still weren't good, but now they weren't going to be blown over by a stiff breeze and people couldn't just walk in wherever anymore. There were two entrances -- once directly underneath the still busted turret, the other directly across the outpost from the tunnel. "Any better than last time?""They, uh, seem more structurally secure. Their purpose is clear now, but they're, uh... missing aesthetics, or... doors." Haia looked up at the turret. "And it feels like it doesn't want people here.""That's kinda the point? Don't want randos walkin' in causing trouble and stuff. How long you got this time?""Seiva suggested I, um... stay here until tonight.""Yeah? That's somethin' like 6 hours, you gonna be okay?""I-I should be alright. I'm getting better.""In general or just with me?""I, mm... think it's just you and Seiva right now...""Well that didn't take ya too long. Something change?""I, um, am trying a more..." Haia gestures with her hands a little bit. "'Proactive' approach, with Seiva's help. I... convinced myself to, uh, to think about talking to you like I talk to Seiva. I don't know how it worked, but, uh...""Seems to be doin' pretty well. Doesn't work globally though, huh." Haia shakes her head. "Well, if you're gonna be here for a buncha hours, might as well check out the place I've been hangin' out, huh?"
Haia waited for a moment once Rel started to walk away, before processing what he said and rushing to catch up with him. "This should just be the outpost, right?""Wiiith some redecoratin', yeah." As Rel pushed into the outpost, and reminded himself that he had empty bottles of beer neatly stacked up at the corner, he also remembered to add, "Don't mind the bottles, those're comin' with me when I go back.""They're out of the way. It's... better than someone else I know.""Yep, and they stay out of the bedroom. I like my beer, I like it a lot less when I want sleep." Rel pushed open a door, and the heat from the inside pushed back, replacing the outside cold with a homely warmth. A refrigerator with a glass door sat on a corner, hooked up to the pot-sized cylindrical oscillation unit in the corner. The space heater sat on top of it, a single conduit connected the two, running from the heater into a valve and then into the oscillator. The heater provided a warm orange glow, illuminating the room in spite of the lack of effective lights. A bread box was stationed beside the refrigerator. On the other side of the room, what looked like it used to be a bunk bed was now two separate beds with the same mattresses they had when Rel got here, joined together by a large brown probably-wool blanket. Another large blanket, of a much more synthetic fiber, was balled up on top of it. Rel's guitar leaned against a wooden chair that Haia could have sworn they sent back to Entela, and somewhere below it was a portable audio system."So, if ya want a sandwich, I've got ya covered. Otherwise, think this place is a lot better for talkin' than out there is.""It's very warm. Carefully laid out, too.""Yeah, figured if I can't make out there look good, may as well do it in here. Want something? Got milk, could make ya a sandwich.""Not... not yet.""Right, cool. Mind if I ask ya another thing about yourself?" Haia tried to think of answers while she sat down in the chair, but the lack of any such answers gave Rel the go ahead to continue. "What's up with Seiva? Seem to think pretty highly of her, and she's the only other person ya can talk to, right?" Rel sat down on the edge of the too-large bed."Oh, yeah, um... Okay, sure. So, uh... I'm from Litara, originally. I'm not from Entela. I... was still not really, talkative, in Litara, but I could talk to a few people. But... when I was growing up, my family was having troubles, so when I became an adult I moved to Entela hoping to, um, maybe not be a trouble to them.""Oh, yeah, I know how that is. She meet you there?""Yeah, um... Seiva is the first person I started trying to talk to. Other people knew I was from Litara, they usually treated me differently because of it, and... I never really fit into Entela. I didn't... grow up learning how to study, or master all forms of magic or anything. I just, I knew how to do my art, and was told Entela needed people like that... Well, Seiva was... different. She met me with the same joy as she met anyone else, she was patient with me when I couldn't speak well, and, um... she kind of already knew me when Master Sara told her I was an architect that could do what she needed in her project. She's... kind, pretty, knows basically everything, and she makes sure everyone's able to do the best they can. Even... even me.""She does sound great, doesn't she?""Yeah... Um..." Rel originally was going to say something, but Haia actually looked like she had something she wanted to say this time. It took her a bit, but eventually she figured it out. "What do you do here?""Oh, me? Sure, I can talk too. I'm a surveyor for Daira. Got a list o' things I'm lookin' for and an app on my ceiver that tells me when I find them. Liiiike, platinum. There's a bunch around.""O-oh, you're trying to find a place to live too?""Uh... Yeah, kinda. Empire doesn't have enough space so tryin' ta fill up more of it. Iunno, I follow instructions and get to do somethin' that feels important. And sometimes I get to meet adorable architects from history."
And Haia's blush returns. She has a bit of a giggle in her voice this time, which is a notable improvement from 'hiding behind Seiva.' "Do you have to do that every time?"
"'s much as I can. Figure it'd be a shame if I were sittin' around and didn't. Sure you don't want something?"
Rel takes an opportunity to affix the rifle to his back using some part of his clothing that was definitely designed for something else. "Ya know, I'm not really surprised. Haven't even been there myself, to be honest, know of the place mostly 'cause it's had some interactions with my home place and the folks from EPIC came from there. One of 'em'll be back in a couple days -- though she's not much for conversation, so ya might get somethin' better out of Leira and rumor says she'll be nearby in about a week. I'll ship her over to ya when she comes through."This looks like a WW or D&T card for sure. I assume it's playable; getting value even if it gets toasted helps it. 10/10 Marble Architect Creature - Human Citizen At the beginning of your upkeep, choose a card name, then each player reveals the top card of their library. If the chosen card was revealed, create an Energy Cell token. (It's an artifact token with " : Add .") 1/3 "I appreciate it, friend. You have my thanks, Rel of Daira."They hand him the rifle case in addition, seemingly eager to rid themselves of the clunky leather holder."I apologise, but I must take my leave and heal my wounds. Before I depart, if I may, do you know of any locations here where one might be able to stay? I have recently found my prior residence uninhabitable, and it appears I will be here for a while."Marble Architect: Fun fun. This is a cool design, I'm a fan. 9/10
Homely Innkeeper Creature - Human Peasant When ~ enters the battlefield, create a Food token. Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay . If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on it. 1/2 "Oh, yeah, there's a few towns around here. Think there's one a couple klicks south that'll have an inn and a grocery store if ya need to restock on some food. There's rumors of an abandoned place off in the woods, around the place I knew someone, but ain't got enough credit to say for sure it's empty. Thinking about headin' off to check that out later, maybe they'll've left somethin'."I think this all makes sense. 9/10 Friendly Town Land Friendly Town enters the battlefield tapped unless you control a creature. : Add . : Friendly Town becomes a 0/3 white Human Citizen creature until end of turn. It's still a land.

Ruin Delver Creature - Human Artificer Lifelink , Sacrifice an artifact: You may cast target artifact spell in your graveyard this turn by paying life equal to it's mana cost instead of it's mana cost. 2/3 "See, there was an apothecary in a place in the forest. When Rel returns from his platinum surveying, he finds that his architectural work is even worse than he had previously thought. More than just the aesthetics being shoddy, the fence, the turret, and everything that he has built here or brought to the place is in the process of literally falling to pieces on account of the poor work he had done before. There is at least the consolation that Haia's far superior architecture seems indifferent to the developments. Architectural Revisionism Enchantment At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player sacrifices a permanent. Then, if a basic land was sacrificed this way, sacrifice Architectural Revisionism.
Rel can't help but laugh at how badly someone got him. While terrible, he was almost certain it wasn't this bad when he left, because he'd spent the entire time comparing himself to the work done by Haia. "Right, gotchya, I'm fixin' it, I'm fixin it. If you're gonna have walls, make them good walls." Architectural Revisionism is probably 90% to be "target player sacrifices a land" -- as with Smokestacks, the usual best option to play with these cards is to take advantage or remove the disadvantage from the sacrifice, so delaying the basic land sac is probably bad. Probably another 9% of that it's going to actively help the opponent by giving them a sac outlet. 6/10 Novice Structuring Artifact - Fortification When fortified land is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may search your library for a land card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Fortified land has " , Sacrifice this land: Scry 1." Fortify When everything crumbles, it's important to look back at the foundations.

As Rel thinks back to how he had actually done the work, the ease of the narrative seems to slip away, until it is revealed to be a contradiction of his memories. Before long, it seems plainly obvious that if this had been stable when he left, something or someone must have degraded it in his absence somehow. The effect now without a cause, the deterioration of Rel's work has halted, though the damage that has already been done remains. There are no signs, however, of who could have been responsible. Novice Structuring — Ah, good. A fortification we have a reason to re-equip; think of how it does with wayfarer's. However, arbitrary land search isn't so great, and I'd say it's a hard constraint here. 7/10

At the Dairan outpost, all is peaceful. The scout has constructed his turrets and his walls. He is safe from whatever the denizens of this so called Arena may throw at him.
Within the walls, a forgotten battlefield reemerges. Rift after gleaming rift reopens around the old EPIC outpost. The rifts grow wider and wider, tearing across reality until the several small rifts have become a single towering one. The swirling blue colors fade away to an unwelcoming black.
A hand as large as a man reaches through. Its fingers dig into the earth. Another reaches out, further this time, and does the same.
The giant’s head and glowing eyes fill the rift as it pulls itself into this new reality.
Note: Reinforcements will be on the way for characters that need them

Never mind 6 makes sense. 9/10 Acceleration Turret Artifact : Acceleration Turret deals 1 damage to target creature or planeswalker. When Acceleration Turret is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, it deals 3 damage to each creature. (I am aware that this does not successfully kill this creature. Acceleration Turret - funky. think in a vacuum this'd want some FT but might scan well enough in an environment that wants to sac artifacts via other means. 9/10 Thunder-Heart Engine - Steel refrain is a sweet pseudo, the lord ability here seems bit odd on a 4/4 haste, esp giving to creatures rather than artifacts. 8/10

After a healthy display of exactly how little this creature cared about his aethersteel rounds, Rel had very few options. He wasn't a trained spellcaster, he wasn't equipped with any explosives of relevance. But he didn't seem to be the only one interested in protecting this place. Two people he had no concept of had decided to also take up the protection. Maybe they could handle it on their own. He could stay inside, try to take shots where he could, but what he was doing was largely irrelevant to a creature of this size anyways. He took a parting shot and ducked behind whatever cover he could. These two, however, were also not the only people joining Rel in this fight. Because while Nadejda and Aylin may have had their own reasons for helping, they were not nearly as immediately threatened as the infrastructure present, and potentially the rest of the world if nothing changed. Karina's word had reached Master Sara, and she had instantly deployed as much military as could muster themselves in the 5 minutes she had given them. Which was two, for now. But as the highly magical circle of plane-piercing energy arrived in the world and left them behind, they were both ready to take action, and they would have to do.The black-haired woman, a summoner, had come with nothing but a few cans of aether. In a few seconds - maybe enough time for the creatures of wherever to notice and start moving to engage her -- she's analyzed the current battlefield, created a collection of three pigeons... and emptied one of those cans of aether. Rel recognizes her -- this is Leira, but he's in awe watching her burn through spells as quickly as she does. The other, a person in very loose clothing, has a rifle on a sling that's at least 50% longer and 300% more purple than the one Rel was wielding, but they're too busy repositioning to a less terrible tactical position.Birds of White Noise Creature - Elemental Bird Flash, flying When Birds of White Noise enters the battlefield, prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to another target. 3/2 This blocks a 3/3, and it's not like Leira cares if the birds die. ---- I like Scream Unto the Void as an uncommon. Costs enough that you're spending something but like, you might actually get there at some point. 10/10

Nadejda burns into the fight and takes the opening, delivering a staggering punch into the giant's face. It stumbles further back to the rift. Its remaining hand holds at its ear as her speakers pulse. The giant's cries change to something still unintelligible, but more intentioned.
A black blob is lobbed from the rift, followed by another giant's hand digging into the ground. The blob of shadows takes its shape, standing to a shape reminiscent of a tiger, with glowing purple stripes peeking though the breaks in the flowing shadows that make up the bulk of the creature. The quadraped opens a gleaming maw and answer's the mecha's invocation with its own intense scream.
10/10 "Hey Entelan! Cover me with the fliers, I'll keep that thing off you!" Nadejda's mech shifts around her, becoming sleeker, nimbler, synchronizing its movements with the geomancer and pigeons in what is almost an earthshaking dance.Distortion Drogue Artifact — Vehicle Cadence (Whenever you cast a spell, if its mana value is greater than this Vehicle's power, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)Whenever a +1/+1 counter is placed on Distortion Drogue, you may have it become a creature until end of turn. 1/1 The MV2 and MV4 spells in this defense get this up to a 3/3 that can block and kill the Horror; the Birds can let it survive that block with their damage prevention, instead of having to trade themselves.
