"To protect one of the planar tunnels," Seiva repeats after Lettie finishes. While she speaks, she taps buttons on her transceiver without looking at it, like something that had been practiced many, many times. It starts beeping. "Trying to force its way off plane. Might be what Master Sara was concerned about." Seiva takes a deep breath and mouths out what she wants to say while the beeping continues.Click. "Seiva," Leira's voice spoke up from Seiva's transceiver."We need to defend one of the aether tunnels. Best case, fend off the attacker..." Pause. "Worst... don't get yourself killed. Worst case, sever the relay conduit and wait for support. I'll get in contact with Master Sara... hopefully we can move something military. Hopefully.""I'm going to grab aether. Where?" "Where." Seiva repeats. "Miss Lettie? Which location?"Dismal Business seems like a lot. It's card neutral, but a big tempo hit vs Barter in Blood at the same cost. 7/10 Blacklight Scout Creature - Elemental Aethercast -- When Blacklight Scout enters the battlefield, if CC was spent to cast it, put a +1/+1 counter on it. It gains lifelink. (This effect lasts indefinitely.)
When Blacklight Scout dies, draw a card. 3/3 Lettie stares at Seiva, unmoving, as she makes the call. "Central hub, my home, next to the bakery. And I hope that whatever method you choose of 'severing' doesn't destroy my home. I should be going now, I need to move my stock and library to other locations, and see if there are any other forces I can call." She then vanishes without waiting for a response. Blacklight Scout — The way it's costed, it could possibly get the card on entry. I would also prefer a static ability that grants lifelink with a counter present, rather than indefinite duration on ability granting. 7/10

Ani takes deep breaths as the air shimmers with his magic. He crouches down to to help one of the least corrupted faeries. "This shouldn't hurt. Okay, very carefully..." His magic shaves off layers of corrupted skin, which leaves the skin under it uncorrupted but raw. Ani grimaces and starts typing a message to Kirilo. "I'm going to need some help if I have to keep doing that..."Aether Treatment Instant When target creature you control dies this turn, return it to the battlefield tapped with a +1/+1 counter on it. Some of the faeries are too far gone, dying shortly after the oil is purged from them. Most of the faeries are healed by the process, flying or walking around in weird ways to try to not touch the raw skin.
"A Phyrexia infection." She repeated Ani's words. "That was what the oil monster said. How do you fight something that can do this without trying?" Oil Spray Sorcery Convene (You may tap any number of untapped creatures and/or planeswalkers you control as you cast this spell.) Put a -1/-1 counter on each creature target player controls. If two or more permanents convened for this spell, put two -1/-1 counters on those creatures instead. Aether Treatment - laughs in Undying Evil. could probably stand to have some more upside. 7/10

As he starts talking, he uses his hands to try to demonstrate his understanding. "The way you fight something that does that... Or, the way we've chosen to fight it, is by making it so it can't do that. We Volarians, we're immune to this oil. It dies trying to infect us. So what we're trying to do, first, is put that protection on everyone. That way no one else gets infected while it's here, that way we're safe to figure out the rest of it."Ani takes only a brief moment to breathe before continuing. "This place is kind of small. Small enough that we think we can make this work. A few bioaetherists in Entela are working on it, making sure we can do it without others getting hurt by it. So great, we have a solution for this place. That leaves the obvious thing out, though, which Master Sara pointed out when I asked her about it. This thing doesn't look like it can planeswalk -- which is great, by the way -- but that means it's probably looking for a way to leave the plane. Obviously, now we're a big liability; we've got four or five aether tunnels spread across the plane ready to get people from here to not here, and most of them don't actually go off-plane, but a few of them do. That means we have to be ready to answer it, so Leira's been figuring out how to fight that thing with Seiva so we can destroy it and solve this problem forever."Ani takes another moment to catch his breath. "That's what we've got. Hopefully it's good enough."Oil Spray seems probably good. It'll definitely take over a limited board state. 8/10Acquired Immunity Enchantment - Aura Flash When Acquired Immunity enters the battlefield, draw a card. Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and can't have counters put on it.

The nature of the wooden shack as no more use than a memory means that there isn't much attention on it when the dinosaurs sneak their way in. The architect, at her drafting table, is the only one that sees anything, and she returns to doing her work without any more than a brief glance.Nestseekers make eggs and draw cards and are adorable. 9/10 Unobstructed Entrance Instant Target creature can't be blocked this turn. A blue light appears against the glow of the morning sun, growing steadily larger before it becomes clear that it’s a small magical construct, formed into the shape of what looks like a raven, but somehow sleeker and more refined. It circles the facility twice, before landing on a nearby tree and standing almost completely still on the branch, only moving its head to get a better look at anyone who goes in or out. If someone observing the construct is especially proficient with blue magic, they will see a rather poorly-made line of mana connecting the bird’s head to a point hidden among the the buildings that’s slowly moving towards EPIC.
A few minutes earlier, an elf in an apparently brand-new leather coat could be seen muttering to herself while poking at a bird made of blue mana. “Hrm. She always made this look so easy. Forming it is one thing, linking it without entirely changing my senses quite another... Ah, there. That seems to have done the trick. Now, you, observe.” Obvious Observer Creature - Illusion Bird Flying Whenever an opponent casts a spell with converted mana cost 3 or greater, sacrifice ~ and draw a card. [2/2]

[2/2] The glow of the mana-bird isn't missed by EPIC's architect, a young blond-haired woman wearing a white sweater over a blue dress. She looks up from her drafting table, something that might normally be expected to be inside, and a childish smile grows on her as she enters what seems to be a staring contest with the bird.Another woman, this one a little bit older, with a little bit darker hair and wearing a black jacket and pants, exits one of the glass doors of the main facility and wanders to the first. She asks some questions, gets some answers, and then looks up to follow her coworker's gaze. Without the ability to detect mana on their own, they don't notice the line drawn by the spell, but the wave that the older woman gives to the bird indicates they're probably aware that there's a spell involved here.Obvious Observer is an interesting design. It's probably just going to be a 2-mana cantrip, sometimes it'll be a shock, but I like the idea. 9/10 Steady State Enchantment At the beginning of your upkeep, put a time counter on Steady Progress. At the beginning of your end step, you may put a noncreature card with converted mana cost less than or equal to the number of time counters on Steady Progress from your graveyard into your library just beneath the top card of your library. (You may draw your card.)

I heard this facility was investigating planeswalkers, and thought to see for myself what could be learned. My name is Simul, and yes, I am also a planeswalker. What are yours?"The concept behind Steady State is very interesting, and the counter limit seems to prevent extra turn loops, but repeated recursion is still spooky. 7/10 Friendly Overture Instant Each player puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature they control. Until end of turn, creatures with counters on them cannot deal or be dealt damage.

I think so? That's been fixed. Alright. So, most cards that are or above, and both draw cards and have or grant a "can't be blocked" effect, practically give you the possibility of drawing multiple cards, usually either due to being creatures with a saboteur effect themselves, or due to granting the ability to multiple creatures at once. On the other hand, this reminds me more of Slip Through Space, trading the devoid for instant speed, which doesn't seem to actually do much here other than granting some multiplayer utility. So, I think it could be a in a lot of cases. That said, even though "can't be blocked" granting in general shows up at a lot, it can be a powerful effect, so I wouldn't question much seeing this at as well depending on how the rest of the commons and uncommons look. 8.5/10

I have several volumes worth of information I could share if it is.”She gestures towards her rather overlarge satchel and waits for a response with a cautiously eager expression.Aether Influence is an excellent card if you can aethercast it. Fairly simple and quite effective, plus a great response to my card, though scry 2 feels like a somewhat weak payoff. 9/10 Rumor Trawl Sorcery As an additional cost to cast this spell, tap an untapped creature or planeswalker you control. Draw two cards. If a legendary permanent was tapped to cast this spell, first scry 2. Seiva looks towards Haia briefly, then looks to the corner of her eyes with a head tilt. "I guess it's not entirely false. Our aether tunnel system is based on planeswalker teleportation, since our default teleportation spells weren't quite good enough, and a language comprehension spell that one of our students uses is based on the planeswalker spark's ability to translate speech. We have some research that didn't end up helping us much -- namely, we had to find a different way to protect ourselves and others from the high aether concentrations."Seiva pauses for another moment to take a breath. Her gaze aims to the sky until she continues talking. "Mostly our research now has been studying interplanar cultures. Learning where people are from and how they act so we can act in kind if we find ourselves on their home or somewhere similar. We have a few planeswalkers that I can contact if you need more sources. Seiva chuckles. "Though, if you need to learn more about bioaetherics, I'm definitely the one you want to talk to."Rumor Trawl is a good way of keeping the draw two on the two-mana spell. I like this one a lot. 10/10 Seiva, Head Advisor Legendary Creature - Human Wizard Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Seiva and untap her. Whenever Seiva deals combat damage to a player, you may cast an instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost 3 or less from your graveyard. 2/1

"Master Sara. Leira's requesting assi--"
"Already on the way. One carrying tenebrite detonators, one with a tenebrite rifle, one combat caster."
"... Is it okay to use tenebrite? After..."
"What you described about the situation doesn't seem like an accident. Tenebrite is perfectly safe to use correctly."
"... When should I expect them?"
"Within five minutes. Be ready to give them instructions."
"... Alright."

Return that card its owner's hand. Exile ~. (Gift, targeting whatever spell EPIC has cast most recently.) Seiva's recovery from being electrocuted is coming along, so she's returned to organizing the members of EPIC. When the child approaches, Seiva is already ready to talk to him. "Oh, hi. Uh... I'm sorry, greetings. My name is Seiva Zeni, I'm the head advisor for the Eternity Project for Interplanar Cooperation. I believe you met one of my... operatives. I think you match the description from the report? I don't have it on me. Anyways, do you need something?"
Follow Up is a reasonable version of this effect. Usually recursion on any ins/sorc costs 2, so 1 for limited recursion is fine. 9/10
Detailed Report Instant If this is the third spell you've cast this turn, it costs less to cast. Draw three cards.

WindyDelcarloDetailed Report: A clean design that works at rare. 9/10.The child looks impassively at Seiva, as though considering her question. "Not at present. I may wish to collect on my debt at a later date." He holds up his left hand, index finger parallel to thumb as if holding something thin and rectangular. "My creation—" the edges of his mouth quirk up into a smile "—gave you a card, while pretending to be an emissary of my world. May I see it?"Invite to Nowhere Sorcery As an additional cost to cast ~, discard a nonland card or sacrifice a creature. Destroy target creature.

Seiva seems confused, if only briefly, when the child asks about the card. Then, there's a moment of realization. "Oh, right. We were trying to... nondestructively figure out what it was and weren't able to. Please let me get our student to bring it." Seiva taps out a message to Ani on her transceiver. If the child waits, Ani emerges from the glass complex around a minute later with a notebook and the card in hand. He takes a polite bow to the newcomer and hands to card to Seiva.
Invite to Nowhere is a significant upgrade on the way these spells are normally costed. It might still be fine; Lightning Axe exists, of course. 8/10 The Cycle of Aether Sorcery As an additional cost to cast Something from Nothing, exile a creature card from your graveyard. Search your library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

WindyDelcarlo The Cycle of Aether: Interesting Rampant Growth "fix" for a low-powered Standard or limited. A bit worried about this being dead in hand until it's too late to matter, unless the format has a whole lot of cheap ways to stock the graveyard. 8/10. The child looks carefully at the card. "That one is real. You should destroy it before an actual Hub emissary finds this plane. Otherwise, they will find it, and there will be questions you are not prepared to answer." He extends a hand. "Alternatively, let me take it off your hands, and I will consider your debt repaid."Demand Tribute Sorcery Destroy target artifact or creature unless its controller has you gain control of it. If they don't, ~ deals 5 damage to that player.

If they don't, ~ deals 5 damage to that player. Seiva hands the card over. "I assume you know what you're talking about, but... what were we indebted for? I have nothing on records for it."Like most punisher effects, I have absolutely no idea how to evaluate this. It's not obviously worthless, so 8/10 Iterative Process Instant You may activate abilities of nonland permanents you don't control this turn. Add to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to activate abilities of permanents you don't control.

WindyDelcarloIterative Process: Fascinating concept, though it looks like it could get messy with abilities that can be activated at instant speed, and it's a very niche sideboard card. 8/10.The child shrugs. "Your operative told me. Something along the lines of 'On behalf of the Entelan government, we are in your debt.' Presumably for allowing her to destroy the portal the threat had tried to integrate, or perhaps simply for containing said threat. I'm fuzzy on the details."
"In any case, I have what I came for so I may as well leave." Wind shrieks around the child as he blurs into nonexistence, taking the card with him.

WindyDelcarlo An old man can be seen observing the outpost from a distance, half-obscured behind its wooden shack and taking notes in a journal. Haia notices the man on multiple occasions, and doesn't do anything any time. Surprised this isn't a thing already. 10/10 Calm Perception Instant

WindyDelcarloCalm Perception: I can't tell if this card is absurd or just very strong. The fact Storm decks don't usually run white makes me lean toward the latter. Maybe does something with Aetherflux Reservoir, but I don't think that saw any play outside of Standard so I'm not too worried there. 9/10.After some time, the man emerges from behind the shack, moves just outside the entrance, and tries to catch the attention of whoever is currently nearby.Secret IncantationConspiracy Hidden agenda Whenever you cast a noncreature spell with the chosen name, you may search your library for any number of cards with that name, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle your library.

As a result, Seiva actually ends up noticing this person. "Hi, what's u-- ... Oh, sorry. Greetings, how are you? Do you need something?"Thankfully, conspiracies only show up in limited. I suspect this won't do much most of the time in limited, though. 7/10 Aether Transduction Instant Draw a card. If you've cast at least two other spells this turn, untap a land.

One day, Lettie planeswalks into the outpost, as she has done several times before when meeting with Ani, and she leaves a note where Haia will find it. It describes the specifications for the house she lost, from the library to the bioaetherics lab. She also requests replacements for the furniture she lost, from bookshelves to tables. She also includes claims on her regular laboratory equipment and chemicals, as well as claims on the taxidermied animals, though she expresses doubt that the project has ever seen anything similar, dead or alive. She is too embarrassed to claim the absinthe.
