As Lettie kicks Kei, it seems for a moment like she tries to channel a spell together as darkness gathers in her hands. In the moment following that, the two aethersteel bracelets are surrounded in the same darkness, as though it were emanating from the metal. A "flash" of this darkness connects the two with a sound like that of electricity jumping across a gap, and Kei sharply inhales through her teeth. She struggles to sit up, though does so eventually, and doesn't say anything to Lettie.Ani, however, has much more to say. "Oh! They worked! That was pretty cool, huh?" Ani looks like he's about to say more, but the elf raises a hand to stop him."Miss Lettie, correct? I'm Neso Aris, the Eternity Project's recorder. I assure you, Miss Kei is very safe as long as she remains bound by those bracelets. Master Sara decided that Entelan law prohibited her execution, so instead she has been assigned to corrective imprisonment.""Yeah! We don't know if your poison worked since we didn't need to use it, but Miss Seiva said she'd pay you anyways, so when she gets back you can talk to her about it!" Ani looks at Neso. "She's still in Entela for a bit. I think she said it was something to do with a Lerithan trade agreement or something."Hostile Entrance looks like a removal spell that might actually see play occasionally. It definitely takes away the worst part of Scout's Warning, being a two-for-one. 8.5/10 Aether Fission Instant Aether Fission deals 2 damage to target creature you control and 2 damage to target creature you don't control. Whenever a creature dealt damage this way dies this turn, draw a card. Lettie snorts when she hears that the execution was prohibited. "Imprisonment key- at faci- at a key state facility!? She'd do better at a... a classic penitentiary!" She kneels down for moment, and speaks gravely to Kei. "Now listen. These kind folk are being very lenient with you. I'm not kind. If you cause any further problems for anyone with the project or me I will kill you, and I will make you suffer as I do it, I promise." Lettie waits a moment to see if her emphasis has carried her true message. "Is that clear to you? Can you understand that?"Two-Faced Threat Sorcery Choose target creature. Draw three cards unless that creature's controller sacrifices it and discards a creature card. Aether Fission — Clever response, turns their potential 2-for-1 on the block cast into a 4-for-2, as you both lose the creatures and their associated spells, as you get the cards. I remember that a UR cantripping shock caused problems in a custom format, so this seems like an acceptable and interesting trade-off. 10/10

"Understood."I'm not entirely sure what's two-faced about this threat. I guess that previously they had interacted? Anyways, like most punisher effects, these cards are usually not very good. Entelan Convict — Obstinate is a white ability, but this can trigger off of your discards, which is black enough, but makes it somewhat questionable developmentally. I also don't think I've seen that genre of ability below rare. Cool gold otherwise. 9/10

A strange construct begins approaching the EPIC outpost. As far as anyone can make out, it's a blue baton walking on six spindly legs, with a familiar, yet solid blue, set of goggles set on top of it. Blueprint: The LEGS Artifact - Blueprint Equipment (Unlock a blueprint ability as a sorcery by paying its unlock cost and adding a draft counter.)
Equip [ ] — Equipped creature gets +2/+0. [ ] — Equipped creature has menace.

Kaira is in no position to cast spells or to do much walking around, but the position she sat herself in has an excellent view of this... whatever it is as it approaches. "Estova," she calls lightly. If he had time to be out here goofing off, which in this case meant tossing a dagger into the air and letting it stick itself into the ground, he probably didn't need to be at the core any time soon. Estova looks back to her for a moment before she nods her head. "Check that out.""What's that?" Estova questions as he gets into a better position to look at it. "Looks like it could be something from AKHVIA. Wouldn't be the first time.""Can you go say hello and make sure it doesn't get closer before we know what it is?"Estova glances to the outpost, then to his transceiver. "Yeah, I've got plenty of time."The legs is probably about right for a limited blueprint; I often underestimate equipment in limited so not sure if it's actually any good. 8/10 Engineer's Observation Enchantment When Engineer's Observation enters the battlefield, choose an artifact card name. "Hey, no, you come back here." Estova stares at the device, his eyes gaining a golden shimmer. It isn't aetheric, but it can't be too different, can it? With the lift of a finger, Estova lets his spell attack the device with one word. "Stop." This is probably fine with comparison to Alchemist's Vial. 8.5/10 Reprogram
Sorcery Exile target artifact. Until end of turn, you may play that card. (I'm assuming the target for avoidance protocol is going to be an artifact, and I want it.)

"What the hell are you?" Estova asks. His eyes continue to shimmer gold as he does his best to poke around the systems, but he never needed to study how to do this to devices, so this was more about intuition than actual ability.Locate Origin Sorcery Shuffle target artifact into its owner's library, then each player reveals the top card of their library. If a card revealed this way has a lesser converted mana cost, its owner puts it onto the battlefield. While Estova is playing with the machine, Kaira looks up at it, lightly tried to cast a spell, and decides it's a problem. "Hey, Ani. Can you get me one of the rifles and a tenebrite round?" Ani looks at Kaira with wide eyes for a moment, but the Head Advisor had already mentioned that Kaira knows what she's doing. Before Estova is done, she has the rifle in her hand and is leveling it on the construct in case something goes wrong."Remember that it--""Already handled."Reboot Protocol does break Time Vault, but at this point so does a ham sandwich, so that's not super relevant. 9/10

--- A few weeks later, a similar but thicker set of mechanical legs click their way to the EPIC, this time connected to an injured kithkin instead, supporting some of each step. Pidge's seemingly permanent backpack had been replaced with a harness supporting both the PORTAL and the LEGS.
Pidge makes her way to Seiva. "Heya, sorry bout the delay there... been dealing with some things. Just coming back around to pick up those SILENTs I lent ya guys." Soundless Step Artifact If a creature you control dealing combat damage would causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time. Locate Origin - this feels really oof. you don't shuffle your own library so its easy to set up a mana cheat. does require them to have an artifact but just makes it a pretty feast-or-famine card. 5/10

"Estova, if you're done playing with it, get out of the damn way!" Estova looks up at Kaira with a confused look, notices the rifle, and ducks behind the nearest structure he can find. Once she's certain he's clear, Kaira lets the shot fire, creating a much more muffled explosive sound as the round hits the device and sends pieces flying off in random directions.
"Why'd you do that?"
Kaira shrugs. "Clearly it wasn't friendly, so I supposed it'd be better used as resources than letting it do whatever it was trying to do."
Seiva is very easily located in the outpost. Despite having access to a proper office, she has decided to sit outside with her clipboard to do her paperwork. As Seiva looks up at Pidge, she blinks a few times as though trying to figure out what exactly happened, but she stops trying to do that after Pidge finishes her sentence. "Hi there, Miss Pidge. It certainly seems that way. We, uh... Yes, we still have those, let me get someone to go grab them..." Seiva taps her transceiver a few times, punches in a message, then looks back up at Pidge while fidgeting with papers.
"We still have this other thing we've got to do. We successfully got Kei, she's now under imprisonment here helping repair the damage she caused. Under aether-fissile bracelets, so if you see her around, don't worry, she's completely safe. But I still need to pay you for that. So..." Seiva starts writing out the details of her Compensation for Services form while she continues talking. Her name, first and last. Pidge's name, with a dotted line underneath where her last name should go. Seiva's home city, plane, and official title. Dotted lines under Pidge's home city and plane. "The important one I'm missing is how you want to be paid. I can requisition materials or aethersteel coins for you, we could do some trade in services... Oh, if you want to give me the rest of this information, that's great, but there's not likely to be another Pidge in Deep Storage in the next hundred years before we have to--" Seiva cuts herself off and looks around at the rest of EPIC. There's too much to do. I was supposed to only start working on interplanar relations once I got back to Entela, but it was at that moment that Leritha wanted to start a large-scope project that needed me to be paying attention. Getting caught up on how the Merchant's Guild works, understanding all of their paperwork, and making sure that we can teach any merchants heading over to Leritha the same. Half of these papers are in some form of city dialect of a language I already can't speak. The rest of them are poorly translated, partially into ancient Volarian and only partially into Volarian Common.
"Hey, Seiva!" Kaira wants me for something. She's standing now, able to cast spells like she was before. She's still limping, but getting there. I look up at her from my seat on the grass and smile. "You been keeping up your practice?"
"Nope," I reply. I lean back from my clipboard and stretch. "Spending too much time figuring out what these papers say."
"Well, remember you're supposed to be on defense too. Leira's off doing her job and Estova frequently can't be out here, so it's up to us. Gotta practice, every day. Get up, we're getting you back into it."
"I, uh..." I sigh, set my clipboard aside, stand up. "Sure, I'm not making much progress anyhow. I need to request a translation guide or something."
"Excellent. I've got some disks on standby. I'm gonna send one in the air, you've gotta shoot it down. Got it?"
"No problem." I start to think about saying a second sentence, but Kaira gives me no time for that. The first aethersteel disk is flying through the air, almost as fast as some birds I saw around the forests here. I reach for the aether I keep nearby, gather enough energy together to make a thick shard of ice, and flick my hand to send it flying through the air. Far to the right and way too high.
"Seiva, Arina didn't teach you how to miss! Try that again, this time for real." She isn't wrong. The next disk flies, faster than the one previous. Why you... Focus, narrow, and release. My next shard clips the side of the disk enough to knock it off its path, but it remains flying. Kaira clearly notices my eye roll when she taunts me again. "Really now, we can't just let things keep going. We'll never be able to protect our friends like that. Come on, once more. Hit it this time." I take a deep breath.
"I need to stay in practice, clearly. It's been at least three months."
"Not bad for three months." Another disk is launched into the air. For all her mentions about practice, Kaira is certainly not consistent about how quickly she fires those. Okay, this time. I'm not letting it get away from me this time. I take a long look at where it is, watching it shrink as it grows farther and farther away. I have it. I make a shard in the air and flick my entire arm to send it flying. The first shard strikes the disk, causing it to plummet to the ground. That's not good enough for me. I flick my arm back into position, letting another shard fly as I do. The second hits the disk again.
"There we go. That's how it's done."
"Not bad, not bad. Just get pissed enough at the disk and you'll be able to hit it. Now to make sure you can do that to an actual anything. But first..." Before I can ask what she means, she sends another disk high into the air, soaring into a slow glide. When it reaches the top of its flight path, I feel Kaira's spell grabbing one of the rifles she set aside for her own purposes. It materialized into her hand, and within a few seconds, she has it aimed and fires it. Unlike when I fired it, the tenebrite reaction makes no sound this time. It shouldn't, but that doesn't stop me from flinching. The round she fired hits the disk with a small explosion.
"Are you using the ones we got or did you reverse-engineer those?"
"Those're just solid tenebrite capsules, they explode less when they hit aethersteel than the other ones do."
(EPIC practices enough to get +1 CMC.)

No one of EPIC notices the small construct overnight. Its small size snuck past Kaira, and its whirring didn't alert anyone as it tried to harmlessly drive itself into the wall. Haia giggles as the device flips over. She tries to right it so it drives in the direction away from the outpost and follows it while it drives off to see what it does. This is a really neat form of memory lapse. Not sure if it's playable since it draws them a card, but maybe combo decks don't care. 9/10 Curious Surveillance Enchantment - Development Whenever a player develops Curious Surveillance, each player may scry X, where X is the number of times they developed Curious Surveillance. Develop 3-- (Scrying away whatever it was you just tried to make me draw again, or setting up whatever you're letting me draw off this spell.)

It trundles away in the direction Haia turned it, not seeming to mind any of what is happening to it. It drives roughly over the rocks and dips in the Arena ground, but keeps its balance. After Haia follows it for a bit, there is a bit of static and sounds from an unknown language. "Nulien Notübertragung: Prototyp Null fehlt. Bringen sie alle informationen zum funkenlabor." (Rather than cast this card from your hand, pay its suspend cost and exile it with X time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter. When the last is removed, cast it without paying its mana cost.)Put all cards exiled with Lost Transmission's suspend ability into their owner's hand. Curious Surveillance - decent development 8/10

"Prototype null felt, bringing ally information some funk labor," Haia repeats.Haia stops at some point for a moment to look back at her outpost. Only to see that she had walked far enough away that it wasn't visible anymore. Haia's breaths become tight after a few seconds, and she quickly turns to chase after the drone again.Lost Transmission is probably usually worse Ancestral Vision, though it does always cost two so maybe a control deck could set this up really early and get some good value from it. 8/10 Moment of Panic Instant Players can't pay alternate costs this turn. Draw a card.

The construct continues, seemingly mindless, towards the forested area outside of EPIC. It seems much better at navigating around the trees entering its path than the walls of EPIC. There is a faint howl from deep within the trees. Trundle On Instant Prevent all damage that would be dealt to target creature this turn. Whenever damage is prevented this way, put that many +1/+1 counters on that creature. Moment of Panic - isn't as bad at hitting suspend as i thought at first blush, but it is real hard to land where it matters. 7/10

Where are you?Haia kept watching the construct as they walked. "Uh... do you know where we are?" she asks the device that she doesn't actually expect to respond. When it replies in its strange language or doesn't, she continues, "Didn't think so."Don't know.A howl emanates from the woods. Normally Haia would be alright letting the sounds stay far away, but she was in the woods this time. Haia kept watching the bot, refusing to look around for the sound.Scared. Trundle On is probably fine. It wins a combat and leaves you something massive. 8/10
Innocence Instant Remove target creature from combat. (Any creatures it was blocking remain blocked.) Scry 1.

The trees start to grow thicker and closer together and the drone's navigation begin to falter again, until it finally comes to a stop in front of a group of trees. It sits in silence for a long moment. There's another howl, closer this time. If she's brave enough to look around, she might catch a glimpse of gleaming red eyes.
The construct whirred back to life and drove back a short distance, then turned and began rolling back out of the woods, though not the way they had came in.
Recalculate Instant Return target permanent you own to your hand. Add an amount of equal to that permanent's converted mana cost. Innocence - 9/10

Can you stand still so I can try to find you?The closer howl startles Haia. She spins around looking for the noise, catching the eyes in her gaze. The moment the construct starts to leave, Haia quickly leaves with it, hoping that whatever is howling at her leaves her alone once she tries to leave it alone. No, too scared. Following drone somewhere.
Well, once you know where you are, let me know and stay there.I do have a problem with just how easy it is to make a ton of mana off this. It being two means it's probably less bad than most rituals if you end it to pick up a 3-drop, but it can also pick up a four and use that to cast a turn 4 seven. 7/10 Careless Miscalculations Enchantment Whenever a player casts their second spell each turn, counter that spell.
(You get to pick it up, or it counters whatever spell you try to cast with C, your choice)

Haia may catch a few more glimpses of the creature as she and the drone stumble their way out of the woods. As they leave the cover of the trees, it lurks in the shadows, giving one last howl as they run off.
The drone obliviously continues on its way, moving in the direction of the bakery.
Instant Coyote's Call deals 2 damage to any target. You may cast a card with converted mana cost X or less from your hand without paying its mana cost, where X is the amount of damage dealt to players this turn.
Careless Miscalculations - what a weird rule of law. guess it's fine? 8/10

(Coyote's Call will be the last attack by the little bot on this thread, so prepping this attack so we don't have to snipe each other) From a plume of blue smoke near the base appears Brayden and Zero, "Seiva! Are you there? I brought someone that could use your help!"
//If someone does come by they see Brayden's bandaged right arm, which looks inhuman, with his hand tipped with three pointed claws. Looks like he forgot to put his cloak back on... One of the woman's arms hangs lazily from her, the other clutches a sword too big for one hand. Zero's eyes dart around the encampment. [Magical readings: twenty point nine three six zero percent. Rift density at four point one nine six zero zero percent. Elsewhere [ERROR: Unassigned variable] at eleven point six nine zero three percent.] She was surrounded by signs of Elsewhere. She held her sword defensively, but knowing how bad the squirrels had been even with her size advantage, opted for a more diplomatic approach.
"What manner of sorcery is this?" she demanded. "Who here is brash enough to toy with the powers of Elsewhere?" Instant Escalate (Pay this cost for each mode chosen beyond the first.)Choose one or more — • Put a -1/-1 counter on up to two target creatures. • You gain 1 life for each creature on the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it. • System Shock deals 2 damage to each creature with a -1/-1 counter on it.

Haia continues to be very lost and follows the drone until the bakery comes into view.Coyote's Call is probably fine. 8/10 Flee Instant Prevent all damage that would be dealt to any target this turn. If that target is a creature, remove it from combat. Scry 1.
@sir martikov // Seiva is, in fact, present. When Brayden calls her, Seiva stands up from her seat on the ground next to a wall. She has a clipboard in one hand, a pen in the other, and is overlooking the "someone" with utmost curiosity.
She seems like a person made out of technology? How can I even try to help her? Logic processing, maybe? "Hi Mis-- sorry, just Henry." Her arm's not working. Do we have a technician? "Kaira," I quietly say to myself. "She can't do logic processing though, so maybe..."
"What manner of sorcery is this? Who here is brash enough to toy with the powers of Elsewhere?"
Ooh, I can do that. Such an interesting voice, I wonder how that's being made. "I'm uniquely capable of answering that! But first I should probably introduce myself." I put my pen hand on my chest and bow to the technology woman. "My name is Seiva Zeni, I'm the head advisor of the Eternity Project for Interplanar Cooperation. The technology we use here is all aetheric. It all uses elemental energy to do things pretending to be spells, and we use aether to make it. The really big important one is over... there..."
// Seiva motions in the general direction of the tunnel.
"That's called an aether tunnel. It, and a similar but better one in Entela, uses a massive amount of energy to channel away the aether in the blind eternities so we can send a teleportation spell through it without killing the people we send through. This thing, my transciever, can do the same thing on a tiny scale so I can contact people on Entela. I need to do that to try to help here, but if you have more questions while I'm doing that, I'll be happy to answer them."Hi, do we have access to a logic processor that isn't a kid?
They're all busy
Figured. Do we have access to one that /is/ a kid?
I can send Hannah probably. She knows a bit. Need her for something?
Need her to fix a thing that none of us can. Brand is a card name already. Also probably not very good anywhere, certainly not as much as Fungal Infection. 7/10
System Shock probably shouldn't allow lifegain in BR? Feels strange even as a payoff for -1/-1. 7/10
Cauterize Instant If a -1/-1 counter would be placed on a creature this turn, instead Cauterize deals 1 damage to that creature. Draw a card.
