Heyo! This is my first set, and I'm trying to capture the flavor of traditional Magic while doing some new and interesting things. There are, at the time of this, two cycles of cards, and I'm going to show you the first today:
(Please note I've never posted a card before. We'll see how this goes. I'm just adding text right now, since I don't have any images, if you know a better way to do it let me know!)
Tome of Chaos 2BR
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Hellbent — Creatures you control have +2/+0 and menace as long as you have no cards in hand.
1B/RB/R, Discard a card: Deal 2 damage to target creature or planeswalker.
Within is the power of madness.
Tome of Control 2WU
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Whenever you cast a white or blue spell, detain target creature an opponent controls. (Until your next turn, that creature can’t attack or block and its activated abilities can’t be activated.)
Creatures you control have vigilance.
Within is the power of the law.
Tome of Deceit 2UB
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Whenever you put a card into your graveyard from your hand or library, you may have target player mill 2 (That player puts the top 2 cards of their library into their graveyard.).
1 U/B, Discard a card: Counter target activated ability.
Within is the power of lies.
Tome of Evolution 2GU
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Blue and green creatures you control have Evolve (Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if that creature has greater power or toughness than this creature, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.) and protection from instants.
Whenever you put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, you may draw a card.
Within is the power of new growth.
Tome of Inspiration 2UR
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Red and blue spells you control have flash.
Whenever you cast a spell not on your main phase, Tome of knowledge deals 1 damage to any target and you draw a card.
Within is the power of Inspiration.
Tome of Nature’s Fury 2RG
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Red and green creatures you control have +1/+0, first strike, and trample
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may have it fight another creature. If it does, it gains indestructible until end of turn.
Within is the power of nature’s wrath.
Tome of The Church 2WB
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
White and black creatures you control have Afterlife 1 (Whenever this creature dies, create a 1/1 white and black Spirit creature token with flying.)
Whenever a creature you control dies, you gain 1 life and draw a card.
Within is the power of nobles and gold.
Tome of The Cycle 2BG
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Black and green creatures in your graveyard have Scavenge X (X, Exile this card from your graveyard: Put a number of +1/+1 counters equal to this card’s power on target creature. Scavenge only as a sorcery.), where X is that creature’s power.
Whenever you exile a creature from your graveyard, target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is that creature’s power.
Within is the power of death and life.
Tome of The Masses 2GW
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Whenever a creature comes under the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life.
Whenever you tap a white or green creature for mana, add C to your mana pool.
Within is the power of the mob.
Tome of the Sun 2RW
Legendary Artifact — Tome :rare:
Noncreature spells you control have lifelink.
Whenever you cast a red or white noncreature spell, it deals X damage to any target, where X is its converted mana cost.
Within is the power of sunfire.
The concept is that each of the Tomes has a general effect, for people who like to build out to 3+ colors, and they have an effect tied directly to that Tome's colors that also plays nicely with the general effect. They all cost the same, but have a variety of abilities that may or may not use a guild-specific keyword. What do you all think? Are some too strong? Too weak?
