In my previous iteration of Almos, I tried introducing a new card type, Fields. However, after much back and forth, I scrapped it. In Almos 2 I'm returning to it, but making Fields a subtype of enchantment, while simultaneously introducing a new mechanic to interact with field states. For now, the mechanic is represented by bold lettering.
Dawnbreak Enchantment - Field (U) Nonblack creatures you control get +1/+1 and have vigilance. The active field state is Daylight (If there is another field card on the battlefield, discard it to its owner's graveyard. If there's another field state active, it changes to Daylight.) | Paladin of the Dawn Creature - Human Paladin (C) Lifelink If the active field state is Daylight, Paladin of the Dawn also has vigilance. 1/1 "Always be prepared." - Abrina d'Aton | Ferocious Gale ::1 Sorcery (C) Return target nonland permanent to its owner's hand. If the active field state is Rainy, return a target permanent to its owners hand instead. “The wind howled and the sea churned, only those with sea legs could weather the storm.” | Flooded Out Enchantment - Field (U) Creatures with flying also have islandwalk. All lands are islands in addition to their other types. The active field state is Rainy (If there is another field card on the battlefield, discard it to its owner’s graveyard. If there’s another field state active, it changes to Rainy.) |
Endless Zombie Creature - Zombie (C) When Endless Zombie dies, create a 1/1 black Zombie token. If the active field state is Night, during your next end step, you may pay , if you do, return Endless Zombie from the graveyard to the battlefield during your next end step. "Some things go thump in the night." | The Eternal Night Enchantment - Field (U) Creatures your opponents control get -1/-1 and vigilance has no effect. The active field state is Night (If there is another field card on the battlefield, discard it to its owner’s graveyard. If there’s another field state active, it changes to Night.) | Bardic Pyromancer Creature - Nomad Bard (C) Whenever Bardic Pyromancer attacks, it deals 1 damage to any target. If the active field state is Heat Wave, it deals 2 damage instead. 2/1 “Music is like fire, passionate, consuming, stoking the flames of the soul.” | The Desert Sands Enchantment - Field (U) At the beginning of each upkeep, The Desert Sands deals 1 damage to each opponent. Creatures you control have haste. The active field state is Heat Wave (If there is another field card on the battlefield, discard it to its owner’s graveyard. If there’s another field state active, it changes to Heat Wave.) |
Druid's Gale Enchantment - Field (U) Creatures with flying cannot attack unless their controller pays for each attacking creature with flying. The active field state is Windy (If there is another field card on the battlefield, discard it to its owner’s graveyard. If there’s another field state active, it changes to Windy.) | Novice Archer Creature - Elf Archer (C) T: Novice Archer deals 1 damage to target creature with flying. If the active field state is Windy, Novice Archer also has reach. 1/2 “They’re in training, they cannot yet hit a target dead-center at a thousand feet, but they will.” | Nullification Array Legendary Enchantment (R) You may pay or to cast this instead. Field cards have no effect, and cannot be cast. “There’s a spell that might work. Even if it doesn’t last, it might hold everything back for now.” |
