The Pokemon cards which I am templating regularly use outside symbols in new sets. These symbols are used in both the title and the card rules text (hence for templating purposes are in two different symbol font fields). To this end I was looking for someway to allow a card set creator to input a symbol in some fashion within the styling or set portion of the sheet that would allow this symbol to show up in the text.
To date the only idea I've come up with (except for a tutorial on how to add symbols to the symbol font files, which limits the ability of users to share the card set files), is to have them input an image file and then coordinates to overlay the image file on the card. Although this would work, it is too user unfriendly (I myself would have to do a little bit of trial and error with each image).
Does anyone else have any suggestions or anything they have learned/seen?
Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure you can just add an entry for the symbol in your magic-mana-small and -large symbol-font files, then put the symbol png in that folder. It should be accessible from both the title bar and the text box once you've done that.

Thanks for the reply CanterburyEgg
1st: For reference this is in relation to the template here.
Templating 101: Different templates use different symbol fonts. I'm not as familiar with the different magic templates but I'm sure that some use modified symbol fonts. In addition different text fields may need to access different symbol fonts than the others, for example I'm sure that the Future-Shift template accesses a different symbol font for those characters it uses for creature/enchantment/sorcery etc. This is really good as if you needed to use the same symbol font for my template then I'm already accessing at least 48 character replacements so to say it would get jumbled and unwieldy would be putting it mildly.
For the pokemon template I've definitely had to separate the title symbol font from the rules text symbol font as depending upon the card settings they need to make the same symbol a different color (or outlined) at the same time, so I have to send different variables to each font file. I also have third symbol file that is for making the special energy and I've considered collapsing it into one of the rules text symbol fonts.
I'm trying to make this template as user friendly as possible as the primary target for it would probably be pre-teens. Therefore I'm trying to shy away from as much coding as possible. I've already started making a tutorial to access the "pokemon-a-title.mse-symbol" and "pokemon-a-rule-classic.mse-symbol"/"pokemon-a-rule.mse-symbol" folders where I've added the symbol fonts the different styles use. This is made doubly hard as the way they have laid out the pokemon cards a single font character may need to access four different image files dependent upon card settings (black for normal text, white for text overlaying dark pokemon, outline for full art, and a "transparent" image that to overlay the place where two-tone text is needed due to the split pokemon). Now an outline image would work for all of these when inputting new images but I can only imagine what looking at the symbol-font file with the existing coding might look like to a non-coder.
I have considered that I could have people enter a text field with the location of a new symbol font, but at least too date I haven't gotten a single text field to access different .mse-symbol folders (adding a new one just erases the old one).

An example snippet from magic-new: [/div][div] tap symbol: render style: both choice images: modern: /magic-mana-large.mse-symbol-font/mana_t.png old: /magic-mana-large.mse-symbol-font/mana_t_old.png diagonal T: /magic-mana-large.mse-symbol-font/mana_t_older.png
It wasn't what I thought I'd find, but it should be a light in the dark.
